Karo Parisyan comes up short at ShoFights 20, Kendall Grove ekes out decision win

This weekend’s ambitious offering by ShoFights 20 featured a number of notable fighters in action including veterans from Strikeforce, Bellator, and the UFC. However, simply being well-known is never enough to ensure victory as was once again proven at last night’s show.

In one of the evening’s featured fights, the sad story of Karo Parisyan’s career continued after “The Heat” found himself in serious trouble before the first frame had even concluded despite starting things out strong. Parisyan put opponent John Gunderson on his back right away but was unable to keep him there, eventually eating a stiff knee and following it up with a reckless takedown attempt. The 34-13-2 Gunderson immediately took advantage of the opportunity and sunk in a Guillotine Choke for the 27th tap of his career.

Another one-time prospect having since fallen on hard times, Kendall Grove, was more fortunate than Parisyan and earned a victory albeit one laced with controversy. The Ultimate Fighter 3 winner came away with a Split Decision over previously unbeaten Derek Brunson, though the 29-year old Hawaiian spent much of the bout fighting off his back due to Brunson’s superior grappling skills. “Da Spyder” also landed an illegal upkick late in the fight, yet rather than being punished for the move Grove was awarded after the referee decided to reset the competitors in a standing position.
