Bellator 71 Results: LHW semifinalists emerge, Brett Rogers back on winning track

After a short break, Bellator is back tonight with Bellator 71 to open the organization’s second Summer Series featuring a trilogy of shows to keep folks satisfied until Season 7 starts this fall. The card is highlighted by a field of eight light heavyweights vying to become the division’s top contender as well as the debut of heavyweight Brett Rogers.

Rogers is no doubt a familiar name to longtime fans based on his work in EliteXC/Strikeforce including knockouts of James Thompson and Andrei Arlovski. However, “Da Grim” has struggled to find success in the ring as of late, dropping four of his last five fights and seeing his last outing result in a No Contest due to an accidental shot to the back of his opponent’s head. However, he’ll certainly be motivated to get back on the winning track come showtime, facing former friend Kevin Asplund who he’s since fallen out with based on a fire Asplund’s wife is alleged to have set in Rogers’ house.

Unlike past Bellator shows, tonight’s offering will stream live in its entirety through Spike.com/Bellator.com (not MTV2) before things return to normal next month with Bellator 72. However, Five Ounces of Pain will still be tuned in and relaying live results back to readers as they unfold from the arena.

Preliminary pairings start at 6:30 PM EST before the featured fights begin at 8:00 PM EST. Those with EPIX will still be able to watch the main card live on the network.
