Roy Nelson has been told time and time again by many – including UFC President Dana White – that he would thrive at light heavyweight. Now it appears as if “Big Country” may be open to the idea if he can lure Mike Russow inside the Octagon.
Over the weekend, Russow was defeated for just the second time in his career by Fabricio Werdum, as the Brazilian earned a knockout victory over the Chicago police officer at UFC 147. Seeing as that Werdum was also the last fighter to defeat Nelson, and neither has anything close to resembling a six-pack, the Ultimate Fighter 10 winner decided to call out Russow via Twitter.
“I want Mike Russow and the loser goes to 205 or becomes Dana White rich,” Nelson posted. “Let make it happen.”
While it seems likely Nelson’s challenge was tongue-in-cheek, the fight makes quite a bit of sense from the perspective of both fighters. Nelson is 17-7 and coming off a win over Dave Herman, while Russow is now 15-2 following the recent defeat but had won a slew of consecutive scraps beforehand.
