Jeff Monson signed to make Super Fight League debut against Todd Duffee

A pair of former UFC fighters will square off several thousand miles away from the U.S. in September, as Todd Duffee and Jeff Monson have signed to compete in the main event of Super Fight League 4.

The card takes place on September 4 from Bangalore, India. The fight marks Monson’s debut under the SFL banner.

Since a knockout loss to Mike Russow in 2010, Duffee (7-2) has fallen to Alistair Overeem and defeated Neil Grove. The Grove match took place this past April at SFL 2 with Duffee winning by TKO in the first round.

Monson is 3-0-1 in his last four scraps since a defeat to Fedor Emelianenko, toppling Denis Komkin, Jim York and Alexey Oleinik.

SFL CEO Ken Pavia confirmed the fight during a recent appearance on MMAjunkie.

Decent matchup given the slim HW pickings outside Zuffa. Duffee is a big strong dude with good striking… and yet, when I see his name I can’t help but think of the way Overeem manhandled him.

It is good matchmaking. And if Duffee can get the “W” via his usual stoppage, it makes a huge statement to the rest of the HW division, and could me a ticket back to the big show. Monson may be the definition of a Journey Man, but he’s only been TKO’d twice in 60 fights and he’s been in there with some truly heavy hitters. I’d like to see this one more than the Fedor/Monson fight.

Interesting matchup, I think if this goes past the 2nd then Monson by sub, but i think early on hes going to have to be extremely careful.

also @ Rich, couldnt agree more about the overeem thing lol. Thats what he gets for trying to strike with one of the best strikers in world
