With Strikeforce’s next card about two weeks away the organization has started to focus on putting together the lineup for the following month’s effort headlined by bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey’s title-defense against Sarah Kaufman. Earlier today the promotion confirmed three more fights for the August 18 event including a previously rumored pairing between Derek Brunson-Ronaldo Souza.
Also announced was a battle between welterweights Roger Bowling-Tarec Saffiedine as well as light heavyweight action featuring Ovince St. Preux-T.J. Cook.
The 15-3 Souza is a former Strikeforce middleweight champ who should earn himself a shot at the belt if he can beat Brunson, a 9-1 competitor coming off the first loss of his career.
Saffiedine holds an overall record of 12-3 and is currently on a two-fight winning streak. The 25-year old Team Quest member holds past victories over Scott Smith and Brock Larson, Meanwhile, Bowling made a name for himself with an exciting series against Bobby Voelker en route to an 11-2 overall record including nine stoppages.
St. Preux had an eight-fight run snapped by Gegard Mousasi in December and hasn’t fought since meaning he’ll no doubt be anxious to mix it up come showtime. Likewise, the 11-4 Cook also fell in his last outing but racked up nine TKOs prior to the stumble.
