Two of the top British welterweights in the world have agreed to face off in front of their countrymen on September 29 at UFC on Fuel 5 in the form of a fight between John Hathaway and John Maguire. Both men are coming off back-to-back wins inside the Octagon.
UFC officials confirmed the match-up earlier today. The card is scheduled to take place in Nottingham, England and will feature a number of popular fighters from the United Kingdom including Paul Sass, Brad Pickett, and Dan Hardy. Heavyweights Stipe Miocic-Stefan Struve will serve as the headlining bout.
The 25-year old Hathaway has been impressive thus far in his career, picking up past victories over Rick Story and Diego Sanchez en route to compiling an overall record of 16-1. He has come out ahead on the scorecards in both of his in-ring appearances since falling by decision to Mike Pyle in his only career loss, a meeting also marking his last fight in England.
Meanwhile, Maguire is 18-3 with thirteen finishes and wins in his last seven scraps. He is 2-0 in the UFC with his latest outing involving a submission stoppage of DaMarques Johnson in April.
