Dong Hyun Kim confident his grappling will hold up against Demian Maia

When welterweights Dong Hyun Kim and Demian Maia lock horns this Saturday night at UFC 148 there won’t be any confusion regarding which of the two is a polished BJJer based on their past success. Eight of Maia’s fifteen total wins have involved a tap-out while Kim hasn’t submitted an opponent in more than five years.

However, according to Kim, his grappling ability is polished to the point he’s far from concerned about Maia’s wizardry on the mat.

“I have trained with blackbelts in Korea and the United States. I’m confident enough to win the game and make him pull out the white flag,” explained Kim in the UFC Countdown special attached to this weekend’s event.

“I am confident in both judo and ground techniques. I will present a fierce, attacking fight for fans,” Kim concluded. “Weapons are everywhere in the body. The whole body is a weapon.”

Maia-Kim will collide on the PPV portion of UFC 148. The broadcast starts at 10:00 PM EST with a number of preliminary pairings airing on FX in the hours leading up to main card.

I am really looking forward to a tough grappling battle here, hopefully we see the Maia that took Sonnen down and submitted him easily rather than the Maia that tends to stand and strike with guys.
