Former Strikeforce middleweight champ Cung Le has no problem with the notion of not being favored over Patrick Cote entering their bout at UFC 148. The contest will mark Le’s second attempt at securing a UFC victory, as he lost to Wanderlei Silva last year in his Octagon debut.
While Cote is just returning to the UFC after an extended break following his release, “The Predator” and one-time challenger to the title is the odds-on favorite against Le. Cote has won four consecutive fights since his release after three straight UFC losses.
“The odds,” said Le, grinning, during a recent pre-fight press conference. “I like being the underdog. I’m happy about that.”
Despite being 40 years old, Le is fresher than most at his age due to several breaks in fighting to film movies. Still, with a 7-2 mark and a title to his credit, he knows a UFC victory is very important.
“I just have to leave it all in the cage and not hold back,” explained Le. “I just train hard and plan on fighting very hard.”
