Dana White wants to do away with TRT

In a matter of hours the UFC may crown a new champion in the form of Chael Sonnen as well as a new era in terms of a title-holder who openly admits to using Testosterone Replacement Therapy. The treatment has been a source of controversy for many over the past few years, feeling as though injecting testosterone, regardless of legality, provides a competitive advantage through unnatural means and in some cases may even cover up past steroid use.

One of the names joining the anti-TRT cause is none other than UFC President Dana White with the outspoken executive recently going so far as to say he would ban TRT if given the choice.

“We’re really the only sport that’s actually regulated by the government and the government allows these guys to do this TRT. And basically over the next ten years, sports science keeps getting better and better and better,” explained White in an interview with ESPN. “The problem with it is, you got guys going ‘Well if this much is good, this (more) must be great.’ That’s the problem and you will find guys that cheat even with the stuff that’s legal.”

White went on to credit current 185-pound king Anderson Silva with performing at a high level despite being 37 years old and working with his God-given level of testosterone.

“The bottom line is you don’t need that junk. If you don’t abuse stuff earlier in your career, you’ll never need to use that kind of junk,” White concluded, adding a simple “yeah” when asked if he would eliminate TRT use in his company were the decision up to him.

Sonnen and Silva meet tonight in the main event at UFC 148. Other notable fighters to admit to TRT use include Nate Marquardt (who has since stopped), as well as Dan Henderson and Frank Mir.
