After a long wait, the UFC has inked Shooto 125 lb champion Jussier Da Silva. The Nova Uniao product comes into the octagon with 14-1, his sole career loss coming at the hands of current UFC flyweight standout Ian McCall.
“Formiga” comes into the promotion on a five-fight win-streak, four of which came by submission. The Brazilian holds victories over top flyweights Danny Martinez and former Shooto Champion Mamoru Yamaguchi. Da Silva announced his UFC signing via youtube.
I am very happy with this signing. I always dreamed of this since they created the division. The time has come. I’ll try to do a good job. I did good fights here in Brazil and want to show it because I am the South American champion of Shooto.
The top ranked jiu jitsu specialist serves as a welcomed addition to the UFC’s flourishing flyweight division, which was implemented in March of this year.
