Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy quick results

Strikeforce returned to Showtime tonight with a double-championship affair at Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy.

In the main event, Luke Rockhold and Tim Kennedy finally met after having a pair of bouts axed due to injuries suffered by both fighters. The title defense was the second for Rockhold, who defeated Keith Jardine earlier this year.

The co-main event provided Strikeforce a welterweight champion, as Nate Marquardt and Tyron Woodley met to decide a champion. The belt was vacated by Nick Diaz last year after Diaz signed with the UFC.

A full list of winners/losers from Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy can be found below:

Love how there were so many decisions they didn’t have time to even acknowledge Jason High’s 30-second win. Woodley fight was amazing; the finish was just nuts.

“Nate Marquardt def. Tyron Woodley via Knockout in Round 1 (Strikes) for vacant Strikeforce welterweight title” — I think “The Great” took it in the first minute or so of the 4th round.

It was a good fight but Woodley looked tiny compared to Nate.

Tyrone’s mom was the worst part of the fights, she would not STFU. I’m so happy Nate got the KO, he found his rhythm early and systematically took him apart. Great fight

Yeah, that was a beautiful performance by Nate. I guess I had forgotten just how much of a threat he is since his exit from the UFC.

He was lightning quick and every strike was thrown with power and precision. The finish was a flawless 5-strike combo. Three elbows, a left hook, and an uppercut for good measure. Just beautiful.

And he is bloody massive for 170. I’d hate to be a Strikeforce welterweight right now.

For that matter, Rockhold is massive at 185 and I’d hate to be a middleweight too.

    He dwarfed Kennedy.

Nate looked in pretty good shape for a man who supposedly needed TRT a year ago.

Nate looked great and Woodley has serious potential, dont forget Nate has close to 4 times the experience as Woodley, Rockhold looked very good even in the few tough spots he came out on top of. Felt bad for Jardine but he showed that he still has a ton of heart out there.

Nate has got to be the biggest WW currently employed by Zuffa right now, i cant wait for him to come back to the UFC roster when Strikeforce folds.. He looked a great as he ever has. A match between GSP and Marquardt would be a very interesting and competitive fight IMO Nate has a good shot being the one to finally beat Georges.

Pretty remarkable transformation to go from this to just under 170 this past week.

Nate’s had a tough run ever since the ugly UFC departure… Saturday’s win had to feel awesome and it’ll be interesting to see how far back up the ladder he can climb.
