The UFC’s director of operations in Canada Tom Wright talked about forthcoming fight announcements for September’s UFC 152 card in Toronto earlier this week.
Wright promised that we would know who would be fighting on the card by early next week.
Well, it appears the UFC didn’t want to wait that long, naming the main event and co-main event for the September 22 card from Canada.
In the main event, Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson will meet to determine the first-ever UFC flyweight champion. The two each won semifinal round affairs to advance to the finals.
The co-main event will be a middleweight showdown between Michael Bisping and Brian Stann. Both men have been pushing for a match with each other for a while now, and should provide a way to sort out the cluster at the top of the UFC’s middleweight pecking order.
Along with those two fights, Rory MacDonald and BJ Penn will meet. Now, Canada just needs to keep their fingers crossed that injuries don’t hamper this card like it did to the one next weekend.
