UFC 149 Results: Renan Barao outpoints Urijah Faber in one-sided main event

After a build up to the event featuring enough injuries to drive UFC President Dana White prematurely gray, if he had any hair that is, UFC 149 has finally arrived and with it a lineup featuring a handful of intriguing match-ups as well as the debut of former Bellator middleweight champ Hector Lombard and a title-fight between bantamweights Urijah Faber-Renan Barao.

Lombard is unbeaten since 2006, racking up record of 24-0-1 in the span since and has finished 24 of the 31 total opponents he’s taken out. He will face Tim Boetsch who has put together a nice run as of late in his own right, winning four straight including a recent stoppage of Yushin Okami.

Meanwhile, Faber and Barao will battle for the division’s interim belt while linear champion Dominick Cruz recovers from knee surgery. Faber is 26-5 with past success against the likes of Eddie Wineland and Brian Bowles, while Barao boasts an incredible 28-fight winning streak.

As always, Five Ounces of Pain will be watching from start to finish and relaying real time results back to our readers. Action kicks off at 6:45 PM EST on Facebook before FX takes over with more preliminary pairings at 8:00 PM EST and PPV rounds the show out two hours later.

I thought the McGee fight was on the prelims, but I’ll take him over Ring.

I almost want to see Boetsch win just to shake up the MW division. I don’t like the idea of Lombard getting a shot of he wins. Tim is a mid tier fighter at best. If he smashed Bisping then I’d be ok with it. Micheal seems to think he’s the only one worthy of fighting Silva, even tho I think Belcher, Belfort, and Weidman (kind of a stretch) would beat him.

Wow, never thought I’d be saying “Ryan Jimmo just tied the record for fastest knock out in UFC history” but that’s what I’m doing.

Whoever skipped out on this show, my condolences. So far it’s been a great card and it’s not even 9PM EST.

Ebersole / Head and Kongo / Jordan just sucked the life out of this card.

The latter was easily the worst fight I have ever watched.

  • hindsightufuk says:

also on the post fight presser Dana was clearly pissed, even though Zuffa put these chumps on the main card, by chumps i mean the first 3 ppv fights, yet not once did he congratulate the guys on the prelims cos they were fucking awesome.

So hopefully I won’t have to see “The California Middle aged man” fight for the title again anytime soon.

  • Awesome, Now Lombard has to work his way up like he should’ve had to in the first place. Im not sure if that was just an example of how much Tim has improved or how much Lombard was overrated. Couldve been octagon jitters though. Im glad I went to the beach and didnt watch the fights now. When reading the results it looked like a good card but after seein you guys talk about how much the card sucked….

  • JabCrossHook says:

I’m a Boetsch fan and never liked Lombard because he’s known as a gym bully but there’s no way Tim should’ve gotten the nod in that fight. It was close but with the fact that Tim was getting taken down and running away from those quick punches shows that it should’ve went to Hector. That’s from a purely non bias perspective, personally I love how Hector lost lulz

Its funny how the preliminaries were free and more exciting and the main card was PPV and filled with boring fights.

    Wow how dissapointing…..

Best part was Rogans “I enjoyed it” comment about the Caraway hand over mouth to choke move. Had me rolling.

  • Creature says:

Hindsight what are you talking about? Dana congratulated the prelims guys many times, and said they stole the show multiple times.

Ill agree with everyone, the main card was just straight horrible.. good thing i dont buy 80% of the PPVs and just watch them through streams so i didnt have to pay for this ;)

Court got robbed again just like on TUF. Nick Ring has a nack for gift decisions. I did enjoy Rogans comments about Ebersol being impossible to ckoke.. and willing to pay $1000 to see him grapple with Marcello Garcia.
