Dominick Cruz can’t wait to step inside Octagon with Renan Barao

UFC bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz has a new adversary on the horizon in Renan Barao. Barao claimed the interim bantamweight title with a decision victory over Urijah Faber Saturday night in the main event of UFC 149.

Now, as long as Cruz heals up quickly from his knee surgery, the two will begin a march to face off and unify the titles. And, apparently, the prospect of facing Barao, who “The Dominator” watched from the Fuel TV viewing area, excites him.

“I am looking forward to it. (Barao) is new blood,” said Cruz, who was part of the network’s team covering the event. “He was composed and is ready for a five-round title-fight with me.”

Barao is now 31-1 and has not lost since his professional debut. Cruz, meanwhile owns a record of 19-1 with his lone loss coming to Faber at featherweight.

Put him in there with Michael MacDonald, standing I think MacDonald can take the fight and he is a top 5 contender.

  • Of course Cruz is excited, not only is Borao someone new, but he’s also a very interesting riddle to figure out and Cruz is a true competitor.
I also agree that Michael MacDonald is the next in line if Cruz takes too long to heal up for Borao to remain stagnant. That kid is fierce, has true KO power at 135 and being a little biased, I would love to see a title come home to the 209.
