Shane Roller fighting Jacob Volkmann at UFC 151

A rumble resembling a grappling enthusiast’s wet dream has been booked for September 1 at UFC 151 in the form of a recently announced bout between Shane Roller-Jacob Volkmann. Each has excelled on the mat with a number of their victories involving some form of submission finish.

UFC officials confirmed the fight earlier today.

Roller is coming off a decision win over John Alessio in his previous pairing, snapping a three-fight losing streak in the process as well. The 11-6 Roller also holds past triumphs over the likes of Anthony Njokuani, Danny Castillo, and Jamie Varner.

In Volkmann he will face a fellow ground-specialist with a 14-3 record and six instances of success coming via tap-out. He is coming off a loss to Paul Sass but had won five straight inside the Octagon leading up to the stumble.

UFC 151 is headlined by light heavyweight champion Jon Jones defending his belt against storied scrapper Dan Henderson.
