Eddie Alvarez paired with Patricky “Pitbull” for October match-up

After some speculation it appears Patricky “Pitbull” Freire will serve as the final opponent on Eddie Alvarez‘s current contract with Bellator. The 28-year old will essentially be a restricted free agent after the bout with a three-month window giving Bellator exclusive rights to match any offers he receives from outside promotions (i.e. the UFC/Strikeforce).

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney confirmed news of the fight on his Twitter account Monday. The fight is scheduled to go down October 12 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada at Bellator 76.

Alvarez enters the fight with an overall record of 23-3, including a recent stoppage victory over Shinya Aoki, while Freire (10-3) is just 1-2 in his last three fights but owns seven career knockouts and one submission win.

I personally was hoping for a Chandler rematch. Risky but if Chandler won again, it would severally hurt Alvarez’s stock, which Bellator might have wanted if Alvarez is set on leaving.
