Lyoto Machida has reached the pinnacle of MMA, defeating Rashad Evans and becoming UFC light heavyweight champion in the process. However, Machida doesn’t appear done yet where laying claim to a title is concerned and not necessarily just at 205 pounds either.
Despite a recent submission loss to current champion Jon Jones, “The Dragon” can position himself for another shot at the belt with a convincing win over Bader. But, Machida could also decide to drop to middleweight, according to the fighter himself.
“I always walk around at 205, 210 maximum,” said Machida, during Fuel TV’s weigh-in coverage of UFC on FOX 4 where Machida will face Ryan Bader. “I don’t worry about this. Maybe, if Dana White makes a good fight (at middleweight) and invites me, I will.”
Machida only weighed in at 201 pounds on Friday.
While Machida is eying a move to middleweight, it doesn’t seem as though he’ll do so for awhile based on his relationship with current divisional king Anderson Silva.
“Anderson is my friend, we are on the same team, same manager,” Machida said. “He is a true champion.”
