UFC lightweight Joe Lauzon brought his total number of event-specific bonuses up to double-digits last night after scoring a pair of additional paychecks based on his showing against Jamie Varner at UFC on FOX 4. The two talented 155ers tussled for two-and-a-half rounds filled with back-and-forth action and ultimately a finish from Lauzon.
Lauzon earned Submission of the Night for his Triangle Choke stoppage of Varner, netting him an extra $50,000 for the distinction.
The bout with Varner was also named Fight of the Night, bringing both men another $50,000 on top of their other earnings. It was also the tenth time Lauzon had been handed a performance-based bonus in his UFC career.
Knockout of the Night went to a returning Mike Swick who made his way back to the Octagon after more than two years away from competition to deal with health-related issues. Swick scored the honor – and the $50,000 – by leaving DaMarques Johnson in a puddle on the canvas thanks to some well-placed punches in the second stanza of their scrap.
