Rory MacDonald suffered a cut over his right eye during training recently and the end result was 38 stitches. MacDonald was also knocked out of a planned encounter with B.J. Penn at UFC 152 due to the damage, as he will not be able to get back into the gym at full-speed for a month.
Now, “Ares” is hoping that he can get Penn to sign on the dotted line for a battle at UFC 154 which takes place from Montreal in November.
“We have notified the UFC that Rory will be ready to fight in November and requested that if it works for the UFC, and BJ will agree, that Rory would love to fight BJ on November 17 in Montreal,” said Lex McMahon the manager for MacDonald, in an interview with MMAFighting.
Penn replied back by way of Twitter, posting, “I am sorry to hear about the injury to Rory MacDonald. This is a fight that got me out of retirement and one that I was looking forward to. I would like to wish Rory a speedy and healthy recovery and request a postponement of our fight to the Rio card. To Rory, let’s stay with VADA and continue through with the program from now until we fight!”
