Chris Weidman feels he can finish Anderson Silva, open to fight in Brazil

UFC middleweight Chris Weidman just wants one chance at Anderson Silva. Weidman, a former wrestling standout who is a perfect 9-0 in his MMA career, feels like he deserves his opportunity to face the dominant divisional champion and is willing to do what it takes to receive it.

“I truly believe I can beat him,” said Weidman during a Q&A session with fans in Denver for UFC 150. “I wouldn’t be asking for this fight if I didn’t believe it. I don’t only believe I can beat him, I believe I can go out there and finish him. It’s going to be awesome to beat Anderson Silva.”

Weidman’s resume includes a recent victory over Mark Munoz and a triumph over one-time contender to Silva, Demian Maia.

However, Silva’s camp has claimed in recent interviews that they do not believe Weidman is ready for the champion and have reportedly turned down the fight.

That hasn’t stopped Weidman from continuing to push for the bout. He even mentioned being down for facing Silva in his native country of Brazil if he had to.

“I think Brazil is cool,” Weidman said. “I wouldn’t shy away from that. For me to get a ‘W’ over him in Brazil? Imagine that. I’m looking to take the biggest challenge possible.”
