The MMA world may be focused squarely on Strikeforce’s forthcoming effort this evening where bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will put her gold up for grabs against 15-1 Sarah Kaufman. However, next month the organization will feature a different title-holder in action, as lightweight king Gilbert Melendez is set to square off against seasoned workhorse Pat Healy.
The 21-2 Melendez has won seven straight including victories over Josh Thomson, Jorge Masvidal, Tatsuya Kawajiri, and Shinya Aoki. Twelve of his wins have involved some form of finish.
Comparably, Healy holds an overall of 28-16 and has come out of five consecutive clashes with his hand raised. Among the number of notable adversaries “Bam Bam” has beaten are the likes of Carlos Condit, Paul Daley, and Dan Hardy, as well as lightweights during his recent run such as Lyle Beerbohm, Caros Fodor, and Mizuto Hirota.
