Patricio Freire pulled from Bellator 73 lineup

MMA fans were left frowning last week when news surfaced pertaining to Bellator featherweight champ Pat Curran suffering a broken orbital bone in training and being forced out of a planned pairing with Patricio Freire at Bellator 73. However, some hope remained relating to Freire who expressed his desire to remain on the card and was even linked to a possible dance with fellow tournament-winning 145er Daniel Straus.

Unfortunately, it appears that match-up will not take place nor will “Pitbull” see action this Friday night after officials confirmed Freire’s removal from the lineup in a discussion with MMAJunkie.

As a result, the televised portion of the event is now set to feature Mike Mucitelli mixing it up with Matt Van Buren for a consideration in the next light heavyweight tournament. Both men will enter the cage as unbeaten competitors.

No word was issued in terms of when the company is hoping to reschedule Freire-Curran.

Bellator 73 is set to be broadcast on MTV2/EPIX and will feature two contendership-determining finals between Luis Nogueira-Marcos Galvao (bantamweight) and Travis Wiuff-Attila Vegh (light heavyweight).

so gutted that fight is cancelled, Curran/Pitbull really put a stamp on that card, would have been an awesome headliner
