Cris “Cyborg” changes tune, would fight Ronda Rousey at lower weight

In the not-too-distant past both bantamweight Ronda Rousey and featherweight Cris Santos seemed adamant in their unwillingness to waver on meeting the other at her respective weight despite mutual dislike between the two. Rousey, who holds the Strikeforce strap, stated she didn’t feel the need to accommodate someone she views as a habitual cheater, while Santos claimed she is unable to slim down from 145 pounds in a healthy manner based on her chiseled physique.

However, it appears “Cyborg” has since softened on her stance for unknown reasons.

“The 145-pound division is my category, but I can drop until 140 pounds to fight her. It does not depend on me, it is up to the event,” said Santos in an interview with Fighters Only. “My business is to fight inside the cage and do not trash talk outside the fence.”

Santos holds an overall record of 10-1 including wins in ten straight. However, she has been shelved since December when she tested positive for performance enhancing drugs after a successful defense of the Strikeforce featherweight strap. She was subsequently suspended for a year and stripped of her title.

After cyborg retired pretty lil gina carano ive been a fan and im not to big on women mma but rousy vs cyborg would be a good on a ufc card to get women involved. It would be a dream come true for my wife to tell me to go grab a case of brew and a pizza because she ordered the fights.

Shrewd career move by Cyborg. A fight with Rousy may be the only reason Strikeforce would take her back. If she won’t fight Rousy, who would she fight? And there’s all the baggage from the suspension, too.

Ronda won’t fight her at 140.

I wonder if her changing her mind means that Invicta won’t go in talks with her to sign her, since they co-promote kinda with SF’s WMMA.

I agree with Cyborg here, Rousey only wants to fight her because of her name and is just making it personal for the face time. Cyborg has always been a heavy 145 and Rousey literally left the division she started in for easier fights, I see no reason to drop weight to fight in a manufacured grudge match.

  • Ronda left the division for a size advantage….how much easier could fights get for her? She’s smashed everyone she faced, most in under a minute.

If SF was smart they’d keep these 2 apart for a year or 2 and have 2 dominant champs then do a super fight… WMMA is in an upward swing again so why not capitalize by having a few household names not just 1.

That didn’t take long. Another week or two, and Cyborg will be down to 135 ….
