Chances are the calendar can’t roll over soon enough for UFC middleweight Mark Munoz after the 2012 “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” has had. Munoz started things out by spending time on the sidelines due to elbow surgery before returning to the ring in July only to get knocked out in brutal fashion by up-and-coming contender Chris Weidman. Now, it appears Munoz will be out for the remainder of the year (likely even longer) as the result of a foot injury.
“I am not sure if it is broken. I will be getting an official MRI and I will know. I just hope they do not have to break it in order for it to heal properly,” explained Munoz in an interview with Fight Hub TV. Though he doesn’t have an official diagnosis, Munoz is under the impression he may need up to a year of recovery time.
The 34-year old also said a staph infection had reared its ugly head in recent weeks.
Prior to his latest loss Munoz had won four straight including success in 2011 tilts against C.B. Dollaway, Demian Maia, and Chris Leben. He holds an overall record of 12- 3 and had fought at least twice in every year of his career before 2012.
