Despite a good deal of speculation on the possibility, it appears unbeaten Sara McMann will not be making her debut in a fight against Strikeforce bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey despite having the credentials for top contendership. Rather, the silver-medaling Olympic wrestler will earn her shot at the strap this November 3 when she links up with Liz Carmouche in the cage.
The addition of McMann’s meeting with Carmouche to Strikeforce: Cormier vs. Mir was first reported by MMAFighting. The card is currently scheduled to feature a middleweight title-bout between Luke Rockhold and Lorenz Larkin as well as a heavyweight tilt featuring Frank Mir-Daniel Cormier.
McMann is 6-0 thus far in her career including wins over Hitomi Akano and most recently Shayna Baszler. Meanwhile, Carmouche made a name for herself in Strikeforce with gutsy showings against Marloes Coenen and Sarah Kaufman. While she lost to both, “Girl-Rilla” has bounced back in fine fashion with triumphs in her last two outings including a submission of Kaitlin Young this past July.
