With the dust settling from the shake up at UFC 153 it looks like Glover Teixeira will get what he wants and so will Fabio Maldonado. After an injury to Quinton Jackson knocked “Rampage” out of the planned co-headliner, Maldonado didn’t waste any time in stepping up and offer his services against the highly-touted prospect who himself was extremely upset after hearing about his fight possibly being cancelled.
The UFC was apparently listening and has since announced Maldonado will mix it up with Teixeira at the October 13 event.
The 18-2 Teixeira finally received his chance to compete inside the Octagon earlier this year after having run into visa issues, and he did not disappoint, submitting Kyle Kingsbury in the opening round of action. He has come out with his hand raised in sixteen straight fights including those against Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, Ricco Rodriguez, and Marvin Eastman.
Meanwhile, Maldonado (18-5) has gone 1-2 in his UFC career. Before getting the nod to replace Jackson he was preparing for a September 29 scrap. He has finished fifteen of the opponents he’s beaten with twelve TKOs to his credit.
UFC 153 is headlined by a light heavyweight meeting between 185-pound champion Anderson Silva and Stephan Bonnar with other notable tilts such as Jon Fitch-Erick Silva and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira-Dave Herman.
