As disappointing as it was to learn about the cancellation of UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo’s title-defense against Frankie Edgar next month, it at least looks like the 21-1 Brazilian will be back sooner than later and could even be ready to go before the calendar rolls over into 2013. Aldo was pulled from the bout after dealing with some health-related issues stemming from a motorcycle accident.
UFC President Dana White recently offered an update on Aldo’s condition where he remained positive about booking Edgar-Aldo in the immediate future.
“When he wiped out, he got some road rash. He got back in the gym and he got a horrible infection in it. He’s got a real bad infection in his foot,” said White in an interview with MMAFightCorner.
However, as serious as the infection may be, White is under the impression Aldo should be fine.
“From what we’re hearing, he won’t be out that long,” explained the outspoken executive, also adding his intent to make the fight as soon as Aldo is back to full speed.
