Strikeforce confirms Daniel Cormier still fighting on November 3

Fans received some bad news yesterday when it was revealed that heavyweight Frank Mir had withdrawn from a November 3 bout with Strikeforce star Daniel Cormier after suffering a knee injury while training. Though Mir may be out of the tilt, fortunately, it looks like Strikeforce is still planning on Cormier’s presence come showtime.

According to MMAJunkie, the organization is currently seeking a replacement for Mir. Andrei Arlovski, Roy Nelson, and Fabricio Werdum have all spoken up to volunteer for the vacancy, though no specific names were mentioned in the report as being frontrunners.

Officials also confirmed Mir’s injury was related to his knee. No other details were provided regarding his condition or the expected recovery time.

The card is scheduled to take place in Oklahoma City where Cormier once called home as a wrestler at Oklahoma State. It is expected to be his last fight under the Strikeforce banner before joining the UFC.

Mitrione said on twitter his name was on the list too, it seems they have enough worthy candidates that they should be able to find someone to give Cormier a good fight

So far none of the names besides maybe Werdum really makes me feel DC is gonna benefit from a win in the same manner as if he had gotten a win over Mir. I wouldn’t be surprised if Zuffa just gives him a mid carder or a guy like Timmaay and just gets him outta SF unscathed with a chance to rebook a Mir fight.

Why would Tim get the fight over Arlovski after he “lost” to him. I wouldn’t mind seeing Arlovski soccer kick his head into the second row again.

The only fight that makes sense is Werdum. It’s a good thing Mir got hurt because he saved himself from another brutal KO.

The only positive of Mir being out is that there’s still a chance I get to see Mir / Barnett.

DC would’ve done very unpleasant things to Frank.
