Michihiro Omigawa, Walel Watson among quartet of competitors cut by the UFC

The UFC decided to cut some fat from the roster this week by issuing a number of notable releases. Yesterday, news surfaced showing welterweight Charlie Brenneman had been cut, while today four more fighters appear to be seeking employment at the moment after also receiving pink-slips based on recent performances.

Featured in the group were Eiji Mitsuoka, Tommy Haden, Walel Watson, and Michihiro Omigawa. The foursome combined for an overall record of 2-13 inside the Octagon.

Their newfound free agency was first reported by MMAOpinion.

Omigawa is the best known fighter in the bunch, compiling a 13-12-1 record in his career with a good deal of his work coming in Japan. However, he lost four of his five fights since returning to the UFC as a featherweight after an earlier stint at 155 pounds. All of his bouts, including the win, went the distance including an August stumble against Manvel Gamburyan.

Meanwhile, Watson had the most recent outing, dropping a third consecutive clash late last month at UFC 152 where he was submitted in the opening round of action by Mitch Gagnon.
