In a bout that could have been plucked straight from a UFC card in 2011, Octagon veterans Tyson Griffin and Efrain Escudero squared off under the Resurrection Fighting Alliance banner last night at RFA 4 where the two went at it from start to finish in a hard-fought, entertaining three-rounder. The match-up marked the first for both men since being released by the UFC.
While it was a competitive clash, ultimately Griffin’s wrestling technique, power, and ability to avoid submissions earned him a decision win. Griffin took Escudero down a handful of times and pounded on him, narrowly escaping a tap-out or two including a particularly close Armbar in the opening round of action.
The success improved Griffin’s overall record to 16-6, while Escudero is now 18-6 after dropping three fights in a row.
Other notable victors included Marcio Cruz, Chidi Njokuani, Lance Palmer, Dakota Cochrane, Steve Mocco, and Sergio Pettis.
