It looks like UFC lightweights Anthony Pettis and Donald Cerrone finally have a date for their long awaited clash in the cage after months of back-and-forth banter and some injury-related delays. Better yet, the bout appears poised to take place on network television in the form of a fight at UFC on FOX 6.
According to a report from MMAJunkie, Pettis and Cerrone will butt heads on January 26 with Chicago as a likely destination.
“Showtime” has been shelved since February due to a shoulder injury and subsequent infection. Prior to experiencing his health-related setbacks, the 15-2 former WEC champion had picked up a pair of consecutive victories including a knockout of Joe Lauzon. He also holds a memorable past win over current lightweight title-holder Benson Henderson.
Like Pettis, Cerrone has shown himself to be one of the best fighters in the UFC to come over from WEC, compiling a 6-1 record in the 18 months he’s called the Octagon home. He holds an overall mark of 19-4 with past triumphs against the likes of Jamie Varner, Jeremy Stephens, and Melvin Guillard.
