In a little more than a month a UFC championship will be defended on network television for the second time since the organization agreed to a partnership with FOX, as Benson Henderson will put his lightweight gold on the line against Nate Diaz. While it’s been approximately a year since the first time a UFC belt was up for grabs on free TV, the promotion won’t be waiting nearly so long before the third instance of such being true, as flyweight king Demetrious Johnson has been booked for a bout against John Dodson at UFC on FOX 6.
The card is scheduled for January 26 in Chicago and will also feature a match-up between rival 155ers Donald Cerrone-Anthony Pettis. Confirmation of both clashes were provided by UFC Tonight.
Johnson won the strap by beating Joseph Benavidez by Split Decision in September, becoming the UFC’s first 125-pound champ in the process as well. The #1 flyweight in the business, “Mighty Mouse” is 16-2-1 in his career with past wins over Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto, Miguel Torres, and Ian McCall.
The 14-5 Dodson will be looking for his sixth straight win come showtime, finishing both T.J. Dillashaw and Jussier Formiga inside the Octagon.
