Fans have only been treated to a single appearance in the Octagon from Urijah Faber in the past year and a losing effort at that. The popular Californian missed a good portion of 2012 after deciding to take a job coaching on TUF 15 and has since been sidelined with a rib injury stemming from his July stumble to Renan Barao. Fortunately, it looks like Faber should be seeing action a few times in the next twelve months thanks to an early start.
According to a report on UFC Tonight, Faber is tentatively scheduled for a fight on February 2 at UFC 156. The Super Bowl Weekend show is typically one of the UFC’s biggest annually and is already attached to a main event pitting featherweight champion Jose Aldo against former lightweight king Frankie Edgar.
No opponent has been linked to Faber though it was said both he and the UFC are on board with him competing on the card.
Faber came up short in his attempt to win the interim bantamweight belt against Barao while linear champ Dominick Cruz heals up from a torn ACL but remains a fan-favorite thanks to his laid back attitude and in-ring excellence. He holds an overall record of 26-6 including past wins over Cruz, Brian Bowles, and Eddie Wineland.
