Stateside the sun was just rising this morning but overseas the Octagon was shining bright at UFC on Fuel 6, the organization’s first show in China. The card delivered the UFC’s brand of beautiful brutality to a new audience in Macau and a number of die-hard fans rubbing the sleep out of their eyes to tune in as well.
The historic show was headlined by a middleweight match-up between Rich Franklin and Cung Le, two exciting strikers with championship credentials to boot. Both men entered the bout coming off decision wins in their most recent rumbles and were out to impress in hopes of making a move towards the contendership picture.
The main event lived up to expectations with a highlight-reel finish from Le. Things started out with Franklin looking strong, stringing together some successful combos before the San Shou stylist landed a perfectly placed hook that sent “Ace” facedown to the canvas. The win was Le’s second inside the Octagon and easily the biggest of his career.
Other clashes scheduled for the card included Thiago Silva-Stanislav Nekov, Takanori Gomi-Mac Danzig, and Dong Hyun Kim-Paulo Thiago.
