Bellator debut on Spike TV slated for a Thursday

It looks like the UFC won’t be the only MMA organization shifting things around in 2013, as word has surfaced stating Bellator plans on moving to Thursdays when the company debuts on Spike TV in January. The organization has been airing events on Friday nights on MTV 2/EPIX for the past few seasons including the current run of shows.

According to MMAJunkie, a New Jersey official on the State’s regulatory board revealed Bellator had booked a venue on January 10 in Atlantic City. The card is expected to serve as Bellator 85. No bouts have been linked to the lineup.

Spike TV officials were also sought for comment and neither confirmed nor denied the story, stating the two companies are exploring “many different options”. Bellator has yet to respond to the matter.

Let the games begin!!! This back n forth action with the UFC should be entertaining. Who will blink first??
I go see all of the Bellator live events in Atlantic City and they’ve had some issues filling a 1,000 seat conference hall on a Friday night for their past shows. I understand that they want to move to a 4,500 seat venue at Boardwalk Hall for this premiere show ….. on a Thursday night. Good luck with that. I suppose they’ll be handing out tickets to the vagrants roaming the city streets the day of the event.

yeah i hope they dont start to get too over ambitious, i genuinely love my dose of Bellator.
i hope they’re not forced into getting over priced fighters on their roster as well, the calibre of fighters and shows they put on are perfect as they are. can’t wait for the next season to start already

Is there even a venue that would be ready for january in Atlantic City? The Jersey Shore was crushed during Hurricane Sandy.

Compared to the rest of NJ, AC escaped Sandy with relatively little damage. The casinos are all back to business as usual. Only problem is that fewer customers in the area have the headspace to concern themselves with AC at this time and business is suffering. I’m guessing that things will return to near-normal by early January. The real problem is the venue and the night. AC is a weekend destination. You’d be hard-pressed to get me into town on a Thursday night for a Bellator event.
