UFC on FX 6 lost one of its more notable match-ups this week after an injury forced light heavyweight Ednaldo Oliveira out of a fight with Krzysztof Soszynski, who himself had apparently withdrawn from the tilt for undisclosed reasons. Both men own a high percentage of stoppages throughout their careers and would have surely turned in an entertaining effort come showtime had the pairing taken place.
UFC officials confirmed the rumble’s removal late last night along with announcing it had been replaced on the card with a fight between 205ers Nick Penner and Eddie Mendez.
The 11-2 Penner suffered an opening round knockout in his only Octagon appearance to date, snapping an eight-fight winning streak as a result. Nine of his wins have involved some form of finish including a nice balance between TKOs/submissions.
Meanwhile, Mendez will be making his UFC debut in the bout after going 7-0-1 outside of the organization.
UFC on FX 6 is scheduled for December 14 in Australia with featured fights including Hacran Dias-Chad Mendes, Rousimar Palhares-Hector Lombard, and Georges Sotiropoulos-Ross Pearson. The Ultimate Fighter: Australia vs. UK final will also unfold at the event.
