It may not be officially announced, but, according to light heavyweight Mike Kyle, it’s safe for fans to pencil him in for action on January 12 against Gegard Mousasi at Strikeforce: Champions. Kyle revealed the likely rumble in a video post to fans where he promised an entertaining effort given the pair’s respective skill-sets.
Kyle has finished fifteen of the nineteen opponents he’s beaten throughout his career including stoppages over James Irvin and Rafael Cavalcante. A product of the American Kickboxing Academy, the 19-8-1 Kyle has racked up nine wins in his last eleven fights with the two exceptions involving defeats to highly-touted heavyweights Antonio Silva/Fabricio Werdum.
Meanwhile, Mousasi has been shelved for the past year due to injury. He holds an overall mark of 32-3-2 in the ring and has only experienced a single stumble in the past six years, racking up wins over Hector Lombard, Ronaldo Souza, and Renato Sobral in the span since.
The January event is expected to be Strikeforce’s final appearance on Showtime and possibly as a promotion altogether. Other bouts scheduled for the lineup include Luke Rockhold-Lorenz Larkin and Nate Marquardt-Tarec Saffiedine.
