Josh Thomson: “It would be nice to get a fight.”

Strikeforce lightweight Josh Thomson has been around since the beginning, fighting at the organization’s debut in 2006 and competing there regularly in the years since including a run as divisional champ. As such, Thomson’s presence on the January 12 event expected to be Strikeforce’s final show would seem fitting. However, with the lineup getting full, for some reason “The Punk” has yet to be paired with an opponent, leaving the veteran wondering if he’s going to be left out by the company he helped create.

“It would be nice to get a fight,” remarked Thomson in an interview with Sherdog. “I’m just trying to stay busy and the big thing is staying healthy. Now I’m healthy and unable to get a fight. It’s a little bit frustrating, but besides that it’s business.”

Thomson hasn’t fought since May when he lost a closely-contested Split Decsion against title-holder Gilbert Melendez. He was scheduled to face Caros Fodor at a September show before the card was cancelled due to the lack of a proper headliner.
