Mo Lawal expected to make Bellator debut on January 17

Former Strikeforce champion Muhammed Lawal looks to finally have a date lined up for his Bellator debut assuming all goes according to plan. Lawal has been sidelined since January with a drug-related suspension and series of health-related woes including an extremely serious staph infection.

However, in a little more than a month the light heavyweight’s period of inactivity should finally come to an end, as “King Mo” has been linked to a Bellator event planned for January 17 in Irvine, California. It is believed his bout will be part of the company’s Season 8 light heavyweight tournament.

MMAFighting was first to report Lawal’s involvement with the card, citing sources close to the show.

Lawal is 8-1 in his MMA career since transitioning to the sport after a decorated run as an amateur wrestler. Six of his wins have involved some form of stoppage.

The whole half in TNA and half MMA will probably bite him on the ass, because wrestling requires you to go go go all day every day with no breaks, where is he going to get the time to train for fights? The only thing I read was him saying that the month of a fight he would have no shows, but what about the 3 months up to that? However, personal feelings, I wish he gets destroyed in his first fight and goes away, I don’t like the guy.
