Earlier this week it was confirmed UFC bantamweight Renan Barao would put his interim championship on the line against Michael McDonald as a means of keeping the division active while linear title-holder Dominick Cruz recovers from a significant knee injury. Now an official date and location have been attached to the match-up.
According to a statement from the UFC, Barao’s belt will be up for grabs on February 16 at UFC on Fuel 7. The card marks the promotion’s return to London, England for the first time in a little over two years.
Both fighters are viewed as two of the most talented youngsters in MMA. McDonald has compiled a 15-1 mark in the sport, winning all five of his bouts under the Zuffa banner, while the 29-1 Barao hasn’t lost since his professional debut while finding success during his incredible run against the likes of Brad Pickett, Scott Jorgensen, and Urijah Faber.
Barao-McDonald will serve as the evening’s main event. Other fights linked to the show include Matt Riddle-Che Mills and Paul Sass-Danny Castillo.
