A number of years ago, veteran Kevin Randleman tripped over some wires backstage and ended up knocked out moments before a match-up was set to unfold. Though not quite on that scale, UFC lightweight Tim Means recently joined Randleman in an elite but unenviable group of fighters who have withdrawn from a bout on short notice after suffering a bizarre injury.
According to UFC President Dana White, Means has pulled out of his planned pairing with Abel Trujillo at UFC on FOX 5 after slipping in a sauna, presumably related to the weight-cutting process for this weekend’s show, and ended up seeing stars as a result.
White confirmed the situation earlier today on Twitter, announcing Marcus LeVesseur would step in for Means and take on Trujillo instead. The 22-7 LeVesseur was already scheduled for action at the event but available after adversary Michael Chiesa was scratched from the lineup on Monday for health-related reasons.
No word was mentioned on when Means would be back on his feet and ready to fight.
