As entertaining as this past weekend’s UFC on FOX 5 festivities were, the card would have been even stronger if the injury bug had minded its own business. One of the evening’s biggest losses involved the show’s biggest competitors, as heavy-handed slugger Lavar Johnson was forced out of a fight with Brendan Schaub after pulling his groin while training for the tilt.
Fortunately, the UFC seems intent on having the two stand-up specialists mix it up in the Octagon and has re-booked the bout for UFC 157. If made official, the match-up would join other expected efforts at the event including Dan Henderson-Lyoto Machida and Ronda Rousey-Liz Carmouche.
MMAJunkie was first to report the rumble’s attachment to the February 23 show.
Schaub and Johnson have combined for 22 strike-based stoppages in 25 total wins. Each man is also coming off an opening round loss, likely prompting the duo to duke it out when they meet rather than play things safe.
