After recently confirming DREAM 18 was a go for New Year’s Eve in Japan, event officials announced a handful of fights and let fans know they could expect more information in the coming weeks. The company has lived up to its promise thus far, revealing three more rumbles scheduled for the show with the trio all featuring some familiar names.
In welterweight action, brash brawler Phil Baroni is set to scrap with Hayato “Mach” Sakurai, while featherweights Hiroyuki Takaya-Georgi Karakhanyan and lightweights Satoru Kitaoka-Will Brooks will face off as well.
Baroni (15-15) and Sakurai (36-12-2) are both coming off losses, though “Mach” will have been out of action for more than a year come showtime. Both men are finishers by trade, combining for 33 total stoppages including 21 knockouts.
Meanwhile, Takaya is a seasoned veteran and one of the toughest featherweights out there. He holds an overall record of 17-9-1 including success against Chase Beebe, Joachim Hansen, and Bibiano Fernandes. Comparably, the 19-3-1 Karakhanyan is on a five-fight winning streak with fifteen stoppages to his credit.
Last but not least, the 30-11 Kitaoka is a submission specialist with 15 tap-outs on his resume while Brooks is a 7-0 prospect out of Illinois.
