In past years the Ultimate Fighter has been a place for the attached season’s scrappers to showcase their skills at an event in hopes of earning another shot inside the Octagon rather than be relegated back to the regional scene. However, the only cast members on last weekend’s Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale from the attached run of episodes were finalists Colton Smith and Mike Ricci.
Though entertaining in spots, TUF 16 is widely said to have featured the least amount of overall talent in awhile and drew a number of critical remarks from UFC President Dana White based on what he saw during taping. Now, confirmation has come that twelve of the sixteen contestants on the Ultimate Fighter 16 were handed their releases meaning the quartet who survived the cut were champion Smith, Ricci, Neil Magny, and Jon Manley. The latter pair were the season’s semifinalists and are set to face off on February 23 at UFC 157.
MMAJunkie revealed the cast’s status while reporting a MFC title-fight involving contestant Sam Alvey and Elvis Mustapic.
Among the notable cast-members left looking for a new professional home are Dom Waters, Matt Secor, Joey Rivera, Michael Hill, Bristol Marunde, and mohawk’d madman Julian Lane who also will be looking for another avenue to let him bang (bro).
