Invicta FC has experienced smooth sailing thus far since coming on the scene last year. Unfortunately, that ended this week after strawweight contender Claudia Gadelha was forced to withdraw from a title-fight at Invicta FC 4 due to injury. The card is set to mark the company’s debut on PPV.
Gadelha apparently suffered a broken nose while training for her tilt against Carla Esparza that was severe enough to require surgery, sidelining her for a few months in order to heal. Invicta FC has yet to announce if a replacement is being sought and hasn’t officially commented on the matter.
Brazilian outlet SporTV was first to report the matter, talking to a disappointed Gadelha who explained, “I just want to apologize to everyone for what happened and say I will comeback even stronger.”
The 9-0 Gadelha has submitted six of the opponents she’s beaten and is seen as one of the more talented up-and-comers in women’s MMA at the moment.
