Before UFC star Chael Sonnen turned his focus towards a future meeting with light heavyweight champion Jon Jones he was busy trying to pick a fight with former title-holder Quinton Jackson. “Rampage” was quick to respond, stating he had little respect for Sonnen’s skills and wasn’t interested in facing an opponent aiming to hold him down for fifteen minutes.
Each then went their separate ways, or so it seemed, with Jackson agreeing to action against Glover Teixeira at UFC on FOX 6 and Sonnen sliding into a slot opposite Jones on the Ultimate Fighter 17. However, the outspoken athletes’ paths crossed again this weekend when Sonnen decided to go on Twitter and post an intriguing, inflammatory message.
“A guy on the ROSTER is DUCKING FIGHTS until his contract expires! For legal reasons, I can’t say his name, but it rhymes with JENTON QUACKSON,” exclaimed Sonnen after writing that he’d heard an interesting rumor earlier in the day.
Sonnen’s comment seems to allege that Jackson is poised to pull out of his January 26 tilt with Teixeira. The disgruntled Jackson has withdrawn from his last few fights for health-related reasons including an October outing against Teixeira. “Rampage” has not fought since a February loss to Ryan Bader sparking his public campaign to part ways with the promotion as soon as possible based on a perceived lack of respect from his employers.
