Welterweight Paul Daley was poised to start his journey towards a Bellator belt next month as part of the organization’s Season 8 tournament before backing out of his bout with War Machine for legal reasons. Daley, a British citizen, is currently unable to travel overseas after recently being charged with assault. However, “Semtex” had hoped to still earn a paycheck or two by competing in England while waiting to resolve the case.
Unfortunately for Daley, it appears Bellator has a different plan and isn’t willing to let the hard-hitting slugger jeopardize his standing in the organization by taking tilts on the regional scene.
Daley confirmed the matter this week on Facebook, writing, “Despite Bellator being aware of a legal matter preventing me from obtaining a P-1 visa to compete in the USA, and therefore making it unable for me to fulfill certain terms of my contract, it seems as though they are attempting to stop me from earning a living while awaiting a decision that is out of my control and is not expected until late April 2013.”
The 29-year old Daley, whose frustration was apparent, also revealed he’d received a “legal document” from Bellator apparently cautioning him against action outside of the company’s cage.
