Welterweight Paul Daley has been itching for action since July and was on the cusp of scratching it this month in a Bellator tournament before an assault charge in England put the British brawler’s visa status on hold. Though Daley is still unable to travel to the United States to fill a spot in the organization’s Season 8 field, it looks like Bellator has at least freed him up to fight in the United Kingdom rather than put a clamp on his immediate career.
“I will be fighting in Ireland February 23. I plan to fight every month up until my visa decision in late April,” said Daley in a brief exchange with MMAWeekly. “We’re going after various opponents right now, but as usual a lot of fighters are running scared. We have approval from Bellator, we just need an opponent to be okayed.”
“Semtex” is expected to headline a Cage Contenders event.
The 30-12-2 Daley came forward a few days ago to state Bellator was opposed to the notion of him competing under a different promotion’s banner while waiting out his legal issue. With that roadblock no longer existing, Daley is now free to stay active in hopes of staying sharp before making his bid at a Bellator belt.
