Francis Carmont wants to fight at UFC 158 and already has a few opponents in mind

Francis CarmontWith TriStar MMA teammates Rory MacDonald and Georges St-Pierre already slated for action at the UFC’s March 16 stop in Montreal for UFC 158, streaking middleweight Francis Carmont doesn’t want to be left out of the fun and has decided to start actively campaigning for a clash at the upcoming event. In hopes of making things easier for the matchmaking team, the Frenchman has even been so gracious as to suggest a few options he’d love to lock horns with.

“To start 2013, I’ll wish to make a good fight,” posted Carmont on Twitter. “Give me the opportunity to fight Munoz or Okami at UFC 158 in Montreal.”

Mark Munoz (12-3) and Yushin Okami (28-7) are among the division’s toughest draws with each representing an opportunity for Carmont to launch himself into talk of title-contention. Munoz has been sidelined with injury since losing to Chris Weidman last year, while Okami is coming off an outpointing of the always-game Alan Belcher at UFC 155.

Carmont is 4-0 in the Octagon and is currently on a nine-fight winning streak. He holds an overall record of 20-7 with sixteen stoppages to his credit.

After his last snoozefest, he’s in no position to be calling his shots. I’d like to see Carmont ripped away from the comforts of fighting in Montreal and on the same card as his TriStar buddies. Let’s really find out if he has what it takes to be a true contender. He might be a baby in MMA terms, but he’s 31 years old and probably in the later half of his prime fighting years.
