Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Mike Goldberg, Strikeforce: The Morning News Roundup – 1.16.13

There was a time when news involving Quinton “Rampage” Jackson centered around him being one of the baddest dudes on the planet. Nowadays, though, the news invariably involves him being unhappy – with his pay, with his bosses, with whatever – which unfortunately makes him seem like one of the saddest dudes on the planet. Oh well. I guess that happens with old age…

  • As per the good folks over at, according to Rampage, the UFC brass won’t let him wear Reebok – his sponsor – in the Octagon. As you know, being able to showcase your sponsor in the cage is pretty much the whole raison d’etre behind having a sponsor, so of course that restriction could present a problem.  To make matters worse, Bellator honcho Bjorn Rebney told MMAFighting that should Rampage hit the free market, he might not be that interested in signing the aging PRIDE and UFC superstar.
  • Longtime UFC play-by-play man Mike Goldberg will be making his return to the figurative broadcast booth at UFC on FOX 6 on January 26. Goldberg was out with an upper respiratory infection, and filling in for him was “B” team announcer Jon Anik.
  • Here are some highlights from the UFC on FOX 6 conference call yesterday. FiveOuncesofPain ace scribe Brendhan Conlan sits on these conference calls so you don’t have to, so show him some love.
  • Weep with nostalgia at this Strikeforce video retrospective.
